Oh, the Places You'll Go!
Eaton Enrichment Coordinators, part of the HSA, work with teachers to choose among the vast array of cultural sites and museums in the Washington, DC area and identify children’s programs that complement Eaton’s areas of study. They design pre-visit materials to prepare students for the enrichment experience, arrange field trip logistics, and accompany teachers on trips, assisting wherever possible. Each year Eaton Eagles explore the Washington, DC area. Our city truly is their classroom! Eaton families make these fantastic field trips possible through the field trip fee. To view your Eagle's trips for this year click the links below and make your one time payment to support this wonderful program.
Parents are asked to contribute to the costs of these trips. Please click here to pay the one-time fee instead of for every trip (only available at the beginning of the year).

Enrichment Inside Eaton
The Enrichment Coordinators have formed partnerships to bring excellent programming to Eaton. In past years musicians from the National Symphony Orchestra visited classrooms to perform and interact with the children. The Washington Ballet works with second graders to introduce them to the basics of ballet, and Dance Place's Donna Kearney works with first graders to teach them African Dance. The children's ballet recital and African dance performance are rites of passage for Eaton students, and a true highlight for Eaton parents.

How Green Does Our Garden Grow?
John Eaton's grounds feature two gardens, for flowers, herbs, and vegetables! We collaborate with DC Greens to cultivate and sustain the gardens. Eaton also works with organizations to integrate lessons relating to the garden into the classroom. Students help plant and maintain the garden while learning firsthand how plants grow. They also create healthy meals and herb-flavored oils from the crops they harvest.

Geoplunge: Eaton Eagles are Plunging into Geography
Geoplunge is a game developed by a local attorney to help children learn about geography in a fun and interesting way. Twice a year schools from around the area attend a competition to test their geography knowledge. The Geoplunge enrichment classes and competition complement the popular Continent Quest classes offered by our Enrichment Team. Another way we are helping our children better understand their world. |
Student Sleuth Projects
Eileen Langholtz and Michelle Koerner, Enrichment Coordinators at John Eaton Elementary School, wrote and designed The Student Sleuth Project: Investigating Your School's History and Investigating Your School's Artifacts. John Eaton Elementary, a District of Columbia Public School, is able to share the Student Sleuth Projects with other educators due to a generous grant from the Humanities Council of Washington, DC. The Washington, DC Humanities Council funded this project through the DC Community Heritage Project, which is a partnership of the Humanities Council of Washington, DC and the DC Historic Preservation Office, and which provides information, training, and financial resources to people who want to tell stories about their neighborhoods and communities. This DC Community Heritage Project has also been funded in part by the National Park Service Historic Preservation Fund grant funds, administered by the DC Historic Preservation Office and by the DC Commission on Arts and Humanities. |
