Jacqueline Anderson is a celebrated educator and school leader. She is guided by the belief that all children are capable of learning and achieving the highest levels of competency.  Mrs. Anderson’s educational philosophy centers around the need to teach the “whole child”. This includes addressing core content, social-emotional, and cognitive needs.
Mrs. Anderson is the newly appointed interim principal of John Eaton Elementary school. She brings over 30 years of driving advancements in student achievement, school programming reform, and leveraging community resources to enhance the learning experience for students.  Mrs. Anderson has worked as teacher (K-6), instructional coach, and administrator during her tenure with DCPS.  In each of these roles, she has utilized advocacy for stakeholders and thinking “outside of the box” to improve the learning experience for students.
In her role as teacher, Mrs. Anderson’s classroom served as a training ground for student teachers and she regularly hosted guests of DCPS and the city.  Mrs. Anderson has had the honor of welcoming five different DCPS superintendents into her classroom, as well as First Lady Hillary R. Clinton, HUD Secretary, Andrew Cuomo, and Madame Chrétien, First Lady of Canada.
Mrs. Anderson’s most memorable year in the classroom was when she had the distinction of teaching 31 boys.  “The Young Men of Distinction”, as they were affectionately known, accumulated many accomplishments that year including: winning oratorical contests, spelling bees, academic gains on standardized assessments, and placing in the Stock Market game.  That year also marked a pivotal point for Mrs. Anderson, when she, the teacher, learned from her students. The young men taught her how to better meet their academic needs –opening her eyes to innovative classroom processes.
In 2001, Mrs. Anderson was honored with the National Council of Negro Women’s Excellence in Teaching Award.  She was also a finalist for the distinguished Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award, and the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching.
Mrs. Anderson is no stranger to the Eaton community. Her son attended Eaton from grades K thru 5th, graduating with the class of 2014.  In her role as AP, Mrs. Anderson co-lead with Principal Mann for the last 9.5 years.  It was Mrs. Anderson’s visionary leadership that pushed Eaton’s academic programs to offer more robust programming during the school day and beyond.  She created one of Eaton’s signature programs, called “Eagle Time”: a period of extracurricular activity that encourages teachers to showcase their passions and interests; and at the same time allows students to engage in a range of subjects from coding, robotics, and advanced math to instrumental music and debate. These offerings stimulate higher order thinking and creativity.
Mrs. Anderson continues to focus her work on building equitable learning spaces for students as well as developing a safe space for teachers to collaborate and build highly effective educator teams.  Additionally, Mrs. Anderson sought out partnerships with O.S.S.E. and Living Classrooms to further enhance Eaton’s curriculum.  The Action for Healthy Kids grant with O.S.S.E. brought additional funding to engage students in yoga, Zumba, and running to keep kids active; and Living Classrooms provides an overnight camping experience for our fifth graders that teaches students about our local watershed.
Mrs. Anderson received a BA from Howard University, in Speech and Hearing Science with a minor in Early Childhood Education.  She holds a Master of Education in School Leadership from Regent University. Additionally, she took classes at Georgetown University, U.D.C., Trinity College and George Mason University.  Mrs. Anderson is married to Kendrick Anderson and they have one son, Kaleb. She is also mom to Lightning, her beloved rescue terrier-poo.  In her leisure time, Mrs. Anderson loves to garden, travel, watch live theater, and explore her hometown, Washington, D.C.

Mrs. Anderson will retire on July 1st, after 11 years at Eaton and 34 years in DCPS.

Principal from July 5th, 2022
Mr. Steven Eskay’s journey into education began while advocating for at-risk students with IEPs as a second-year law student in the special education clinic at University of the District of Columbia (UDC). While there, he accepted a part-time position teaching U.S. History to juveniles incarcerated as adults at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility. During his time teaching the U.S. Constitution to incarcerated juveniles he saw the interconnections between poverty, race, disability, and lack of educational opportunity that inspired him to dedicate his career to change.
He started at DC Public Schools as a special education teacher at Garrison Elementary. After three years there, he coached DCPS teachers in reading and math instruction as a Teacher Leader, wrote Cornerstones Project Based Learning Tasks for the district, led district-wide seminars on data-driven instruction and improved student data. During the 2017-18 school year, 40% of his students with IEPs were proficient on the PARCC ELA Test and 100% of them met their growth goals in math with an average yearly increase of nearly two grade bands on the IREADY Math Assessment.
Most recently, as a Manager of Specialized Instruction and Assistant Principal at Payne Elementary, Mr. Eskay led the operational and instructional priorities of the school that included the equitable alignment of self-contained programs with school-wide expectations, the establishment of a responsive, equity focused Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) system, and a school wide movement of instructional practice towards more engaging, data-driven, individualized instruction.
Mr. Eskay holds a Juris Doctor of Law from University of the District of Columbia, a Master of Arts in Special Education from American University, Magna Cum Laude, and a BA in English from The College of William and Mary.

Meet all our faculty and staff.
