John Eaton Elementary School was established in 1911 in the heart of DC's historic Cleveland Park neighborhood. Our school attracts a diverse group of students, teachers, and staff from all four quadrants of the city, and our student body represents more than 24 countries. Due in part to this diversity, DCPS designated Eaton a World Cultures Catalyst school in 2009. Our mission is to provide each Eaton student with a well-rounded, 21st century education that prepares him or her, regardless of background or circumstance, for success in and beyond elementary school.

Eaton History![]() In 2011, John Eaton celebrated its centennial year. To commemorate the event, Eaton, with the help of local historians and DC Community Heritage grants, produced a brochure and website, and developed a student historian program, with an eye toward creating materials that other schools could reuse to inspire their own student sleuths.

The John Eaton Aftercare Program (JEAP) brings you before- and after-care piece of mind! JEAP has been a staple of many Eaton students' lives for over 30 years now and continues to provide students an environment to complete homework, play games with friends, and, through enrichment programming, explore areas of interest like chess, Chinese, sewing, fitness, and music.
